Tummy Time

I've been mega stressing about getting Kate her "tummy time". For those of you who haven't had babies in the past few years, they now recommend for babies to be put on their backs to sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and this has been successful in reducing the number of SIDS cases.

It also has resulted in babies being somewhat delayed and reaching milestones like rolling over and crawling later. So you are supposed to make sure your baby gets supervised tummy time to make sure they are able to exercise the muscles that help them roll over, crawl etc. and to prevent them from getting a flat head on the back.

Well after a baby gets used to being on their backs all the time, who would want to lay on their tummy and try and hold their head up? It is much harder work! And after her mommy's own heart Kate is all about taking the easiest route and absolutely hates tummy time!! So we do it in VERY short intervals throughout the day. Here are some pics from some recent tummy time sessions...

It starts out like this...

And within a few minutes it turns into this...

And some more from our session today...

And this is how it ends when I give her the pacifier and she takes a little rest from all that hard work!

Here is a much happier Kate, playing on the mat the way she likes to.

I really knew Kate must be my daughter on Saturday morning when I had her propped up on the boppy facing me and she craned her head all the way around to watch One Tree Hill on the tv!

Another thing she is obsessed with is sticking her fists in her mouth. Zac and I can't decide if this might be her transition into thumb sucking and away from the pacifier.

And this picture is just cute!

And lastly here is Kate taking an afternoon nap on our bed, she was pretty relaxed I would say...

Thanks for looking!

Kate "Talking"

Zac made fun of me that I keep referring to this as talking but I just know she is trying to say something!

Knock on Wood

This week Kate went to the pediatrician and got her 2 month check-up. She weighs 10 lbs 15 oz and is 22.5 inches long. She is in the 5oth percentile in weight and height and 25 percentile in head size. I always think her head looks big but I guess I'm wrong...

She is smiling up a storm and cooing a lot lately but only when she is well-rested and well-fed but it is so amazing to watch her face light up. I need to catch some better pictures of that.

AND she is sleeping through the night (knock on wood). Every night this week she goes down around 9 o'clock and sleeps through until 4 or 5 am. As all moms know when you haven't had a good nights sleep since you were 30 weeks pregnant this milestone is a pretty big deal!!

Last weekend one of my best friends, Susan, her mom Judy and daughter Reagan came to visit and meet Kate. We had a wonderful time and I'm so glad I have the connection of motherhood with Susan now, it's another amazing experience we can share together.

Here are some new pictures. Thanks for stopping by!

Stole some of these pictures from Susan's blog, since she has a nice SLR camera and caught some good shots...

Reagan was quite interested in Kate's pacifier

My favorite time of the day, when Kate is sleeping in my arms

Reagan, 99% angel, nobody's perfect =)

I was putting Kate down for some "Tummy Time" on the beautiful quilt her Great-Grandma Gauthey made her. It didn't quite go to plan since she fell asleep not long after but Biggio came and decided to keep watch over her. He is such a great big brother!!

Finally decided it was time!

After pestering from my husband and mother and friends I decided to start a blog. I always said I wouldn't because I have nothing interesting to say, so I decided this blog will be filled with mostly pictures. Coincidentally, I am also not good at taking pictures of important things but with the birth of Kate I am vowing to become better! So I hope you can stay updated on our life by looking at the blog.

I'll start back almost 2 months ago. I went in on December 13th to be induced at 41 weeks. At 11:38 am on December 14th Kate Elizabeth Peden was born.

She was 7 pounds and 7.5 ounces and 20.5 inches long. Everything went smoothly and we were so thankful to have a beautiful healthy baby.

We brought Kate home and she started growing like a weed. The feeding and sleeping started getting easier and we adjusted to life as a family.

Kate's first bath, with the help of Grandma

Great Grandad Forbus and Grammy came over to visit!
One of the few times someone wasn't holding her.
Our little Christmas present...

Our first family picture, don't mind the umbilical cord!

Kate was beginning to really focus on faces. She is 2.5 weeks old in this picture.

On New Year's Eve Zac's dad and step-mom came to Houston to see Kate! We had a great visit and you can see that Kate settled right in with Tim =)

Unfortunately right around this time is when Kate started to develop baby acne which you can kind of see in this picture. It was NOT CUTE! But luckily I think we are passed that stage now.

Zac gets his "Kate time" every evening and this is what it usually consists of...

Here are some of the recent pictures I've taken of Kate. In her mother's humble opinion I think she is the cutest thing in the world! Be on the lookout for her birth announcement, I put them in the mail today!

Thanks for reading our blog! And look for updates frequently =)
