Up to Date

I have toyed with the idea to stop blogging. I am just never finding the time/desire to do it. My mother has told me this is unacceptable. I decided to try and recommit to doing a weekly update probably on Tuesdays. For this post I have to update the last 4 months and then next week I can start with new material.

April- Finished up working at my old school tutoring for the TAKS test, all the kids I tutored passed and I was happy to be done and back at home with Kate. Finished up my first trimester and started feeling normal again.

May- First real traumatic event in parenting, Kate sliced her finger open on a mandolin slicer in the kitchen, we spent 5 hours in the ER, she got her first xrays, stitches and antibiotics. We went to a hand surgeon who said everything looked good and Kate was very resilient through the whole ordeal (she has recovered beautifully, you can't tell anything happened!). We also took our first plane trip to go visit our friends the Slinkards at their new home in South Dakota. Kate did well and we had a great time! We finished up the month by finding out that we were expecting a BOY!

June- The beginning of the month started out pretty slow, celebrated my birthday and started to prepare for our trip to North Carolina! At the end of the month we made our bi-annual trek to the East Coast to spend 2 weeks at the beach in NC. We had such a great time. Kate LOVED the beach!

July- Still at the beach, we celebrated my parents 30th anniversary with a fabulous party and we were so sad to go! Later on in the month we had a visit with Erin and Barry and Kate's cousins Leslie and Calla. The visit was good although it was a traumatic week for Kate. She had a mosquito bite that swelled her eye to look like a red golf ball, she had her first ear infections, and threw up for the first time, all in one week!

August, so far- We made an impromptu visit to Lake Martin, Alabama to visit the Slinkards while they were down South, and celebrated Jonathan's 30th birthday. Our main events for the rest of the month mostly revolve around getting ready for Baby Boy Peden. We hope to decide on a name very soon! Kate starts Mother's Day Out 2 days a week next week. I am sad and excited at the same time. I know she will love it!

Here are some pictures from the last 4+ months...
Kate is a little messy when she eats.
Kate and her best bud Reagan. You can see her bandaged hand in this picture.
Playing at the Splash Pad with Daddy. One of her favorite activities of the summer.
This is what her smile looks like when she says "cheese".

Happy Easter!

We had a wonderful Easter. Although Kate didn't really understand what was going on, she still enjoyed the festivities!

Checking out the loot!

Grammy and Binx arrived in town from Kerrville in time so we headed over to their house to take some pictures in front of their gorgeous azaleas and Kate loved her new singing Easter bunny!

Then she danced while he sang!

It was such a great Easter! Can't wait for many more to come =)

Outings

We love to go on outings and two of our favorites are the Zoo and the Children's Museum. Kate loves the animals! She loves the petting zoo with the miniature goats and especially the monkeys where she makes monkey sounds the whole time. And if she doesn't know what the animal is then she calls it a dog!

We brought Reagan and David to the Children's Museum when they visited us in February. While Reagan and her mom went off to do big girl things, I watched Kate and David in the Tot Spot. Aren't they such a cute couple??

15 months

I know, I know. It has been 2 months since I updated the blog. My mother is about ready to kill me. I have been so busy chasing after Kate and working. I have let a lot of things slip by, and blogging and picture taking is one of them. I'm trying to get back into it though!

Anyways, Kate is doing amazing! Here is what she is up to...
-She's 15 months old
-Has 6 teeth
-Is beginning to have a mullet (needs a haircut ASAP)
-Has about 30 words, and seems to learn a new one everyday
-Can point to her head, belly, feet, noes, eyes, mouth and ears
-Is becoming a picky eater
-Loves Yo Gabba Gabba and the Wiggles
-Loves to Dance
-Is CONSTANTLY on the go, this girl never stops!
-Sleeps for 12-13 hrs at night and still takes 2 naps most days!!
-Loves to be outside.

This age is so fun sometimes I wish I could freeze time! Here are some pics of her and I hope to get some good video of her later.

Working and Walking and Hives

Ok so picking up right where we left off... January 7th was an exciting day in the Peden household because the Longhorns were playing in the National Championship game! Kate and I got all decked out and took a lot of pictures to commemorate the day. Kate had to go to bed before the game which is probably a good thing because her mommy yelled some choice words at the television screen that night... As you know it wasn't a good outcome for UT but we think they will be back there before too long and this time our star player won't get hurt at the beginning of the game!!

Gearing up for the game....

Yay Longhorns!

Longhorn Alum and Future Longhorn! Shhh... don't tell Daddy!

Hook Em!

Our next adventure started around January 12th. I had been noticing these red splotches with raised bumps on Kate's skin that would come and go. I didn't think much of them but on that Tuesday morning they were covering her back so I called the Dr. About 30 minutes later I noticed she was a little clingy so I took her temperature and she had a low fever. She had also slept until 10:45 that morning so I figured she must be sick!

We went in to the Dr's office who told us that it was probably a virus but that the rash looked like hives so if they didn't go away we might have to think about it being a food allergy.

Here is a picture of the rash and Kate not feeling too hot.

Kate had a fever for a few days and then started to feel better but the hives continued. So I started to think she must have a food allergy. We hadn't really given her anything new but we started to eliminate stuff from her diet. After about a week I was convinced she was allergic to wheat or dairy and I was kinda starting to freak out. I went ahead and made an appointment with an allergist. They did a skin prick test and everything came back negative. She explained to me it was probably auto immune and the hives were triggered by the virus and her body was confused and still making the histamine that was causing the hives. She assured me it is benign and will resolve itself but in the meantime Kate takes an anti-histamine daily.

In other news Kate is walking up a storm! She starting taking steps back around her birthday. And by Christmas she could take 8-10 steps on her own. But on Friday she figured up how to stand up on her own from the floor without pulling up on something and now walking is her main mode of transportation. She just loves walking all around the downstairs and is keeping her mama busy...

Lastly, I am starting back to "work" part-time tomorrow. I will be tutoring at my old school 3 days a week for about 6 hours a day. Kate will be staying with another mom that I know that lives in the neighborhood right behind mine. While I 'm sad about leaving Kate I am excited about having some adult time, teaching again, and making some $!!!

I'll try and load a video of Kate walking later on today. But for now here are some random cute pictures of Kate.
